  1. I am a senior, & can’t always trust my memory, so could you pls help me out? I seem to remember that when Genie was playing her best tennis, she won because of accuracy & consistency that resulted in very few unforced errors. Lately, it looks like she is just trying to hit the ball as hard as she can which often takes away accuracy & consistency, resulting in a lot of unforced errors, & makes her just another one of hundreds of other female players. Is my memory faulty & she’s playing the same way, but struggling because of lack of confidence, or has she changed her game style? Tks.

    • I think your memory is failing you a bit 🙂 She’s playing the exact same way she did during that brief period in 2014 when she played her best.
Back then, she had the confidence you need to execute that game, which had little do with accuracy and consistency.
She hit the ball as hard as she could (which, in the grand scheme of things, is not THAT hard). She just didn’t make as many errors as she’s making now.
And the opponents know exactly how she plays now, and so they put a premium on consistency themselves knowing she’s likely to be the one making the error sooner rather than later.
It’s not quite as simple as that; there are things happening on the other side of the net as well. But she hasn’t changed anything.
