  1. The rain came at exactly the wrong moment for Andreescu today. Unfortunate for her slam debut.

    • Yeah, that one had a lot going on in it. Her opponent, of course, went for the obligatory bathroom break after being bageled. Meanwhile, Andreescu was fiddling with a big wrap on her ankle and her coach, Nathalie Tauziat told her to call the trainer. So she did, and the trainer took awhile to come. And they cut the whole thing off and re-did it. And it was still raining. And they stopped play. And her opponent came back from the bathroom. And then she went off the court. But Andreescu was still being worked on. Lucky she wasn’t at Wimbledon or they’d have just rolled the tarp right over her in her chair.

When they came back, she completely stopped using her slice. Her opponent is actually a very well-regarded prospect and after not putting the ball in the court in the 1st set, started doing that. She really hit a nice, clean ball. Andreescu still had her chances, but her opponent had a lot more experience. The Russian kept her cool. All in all a lot of good things.

  2. Don’t forget Katherine Sebov – Court 8, no. 2 🙂
