GRANBY, Que. – Players practicing, playing, and a few scenes from around the Granby Challenger.
(Above is No. 2 seed on the men’s side, Lukas Lacko of Slovakia).
Maureen Drake has a tough day at the office against Keri Wong.
Naomi Broady’s gym is boul. Langlois.
But it’s quite all right, because the “facilities” are handy.
Two weeks ago, Frenchman Vincent Millot (who is married to a québécoise) was playing Vasek Pospisil in the first round of Wimbledon.
Sunday, he was in Granby.
He was also sharing a court with Françoise Abanda – and handed her a few balls.
Abanda, fresh from the Pan Am Games, cranked a few:
Katherine Sebov waited for her match with her omnipresent Mom:
Then played a great one against Julia Glushko, who was the No. 1 seed as a wild card into the qualies, currently ranked No. 155.
Glushko had sort of an interesting exchange with her boyfriend, New Zealand player Sebastian Lavie.
Not sure what all that was about, but eventually he just got up and left. (Lavie, a fellow pro, lost in the first round of qualifying to Quebec teen Alexis Galarneau).
