Rumour du jour: Weekend wedding for the Djoker?

Novak Djokovic is reportedly in Ibiza at the moment, unwinding from a tough and ultimately unsuccessful French Open campaign – by his standards, mind you.

Now, is this a little pre-honeymoon?  Certainly the photos coming out Djokovic’s all-boys’ getaway last week smelled  “Bachelor party week” all over. The blowup doll was probably the giveaway there.

The Serbian media is reporting that Djokovic and expecting fiancée Jelena Ristic will wed this weekend at the most exclusive resort Sveti Stefan (means St. Stephen) on the Budva Riviera off the coast of Montenegro.

The location sounds swanky enough. Now, where the story sort of falls apart is that Andy Murray is slated to be his best man.

First of all, Murray was probably planning to play the semi-finals and finals at Queen’s Club this weekend – although that plan was scuttled by one Radek Stepanek on Thursday. As well, we’re kind of thinking that Djokovic has much closer friends than Murray – to start with, his brothers. And, after that, perhaps Viktor Troicki.

On the alleged guest list are most of the Serbian tennis players you’ve ever heard of (Jankovic, Ivanovic – not together – Zimonjic, Tipsarevic, Troicki) as well as Head-mate Maria Sharapova and coach Boris Becker, who of course would never pass up a good party. Ivanovic, of course, is playing Birmingham and is in the semifinals.

We’re remembering all those “rumours” of the Rory McIlroy – Caroline Wozniacki wedding date – none of which seemed to be correct even when the wedding was on.

We suspect the Djoker may show up at the All-England Club without a ring on his finger.

And they said it’d never last …

Speaking of Coach Boris, he’s celebrating his fifth wedding anniversary in St. Moritz.

Point of the day

It was the match of the day – not a shocker so much, given the circumstances – but the way Dustin (Dreddy) Brown lit it up in his home country against the best player in the world.

Here was an example.

Pennini still going strong?

In the tennis romance repartment (which seems to have suffered a few casualties lately), it seems the unlikely duo of Flavia Pennetta and Fabio Fognini is still bookin’.

Genie at Wimbledon

From the Wimbledon Twitter feed, a pic of Canadian Genie Bouchard practicing alongside Lleyton Hewitt (a former champion) at Aorangi Park, which is next to the All-England Club.

Looks like a postcard, doesn’t it?

Bouchard is entered in the tournament at s’Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands next week.

Sharapova the new face of Avon

The French Open champion has been announced as the new face of “Avon Luck, the fragrance for her.”

Here’s a really awkward promotional video.

“The Avon Luck scents celebrate life’s good fortunes, amazing events and infinite possibilities. As a renowned athlete, businesswoman and humanitarian, Sharapova perfectly embodies the spirit of having luck on your side, captured by these two new scents.” – Absolutely!

The women’s version will retail for $30. That’s right in Sharapova’s budget, so we’re sure it’ll become her go-to scent.

Right there with Novak Djokovic driving a Peugeot and Nadal driving a Kia.  🙂 🙂

Accessorize your court entrance, by Aga

Looks like Agnieszka Radwanska will be carrying an extra load onto court going forward.

An endorsement is an endorsement, even if it throws your shoulders out of whack.
