Raonic out of Davis Cup vs. Japan

Milos Raonic is out of Canada’s first-round tie against Japan in Tokyo, set to start Friday.

It’s a left ankle injury, first suffered during his first-round match at the Australian Open.

And it’s a near-certainty that Canada’s No. 2, Vasek Pospisil, struggling with a disc problem in his back, won’t even play the doubles on Saturday. He’s not in the lineup for Friday’s singles. Continue reading

WTA Tour – Jan. 30 results

An impressive effort by Kristina Mladenovic to defeat Oz Open quarterfinalist Simona Halep in straight sets on Wednesday. It continues a pattern for the Frenchwoman of doing awfully well at that tournament; it’s the site of her only previous top-10 victory. She gets Andrea Petkovic today and also has doubles.

Mladenovic left Oz the same time I did; knowing how zoned out I am, impressive she could even hit a tennis ball.
