After a one-week consult in Dubai, Roger Federer announced Friday that he will add legendary serve-and-volleyer Stefan Edberg to his team for “at least 10 weeks”, starting at the Australian Open.
Said the Fed, on his Facebook page:
“Stefan was my childhood hero, and I am really looking forward to spending time and learning from him.”
Federer has also confirmed that he will go with a larger Wilson racquet in Australia – not necessarily the exact same model he briefly flirted with in those clay-court events after Wimbledon, but bigger than his old standby.
And, he’s going to become a father again.
Without a doubt, whatever 2014 holds for the Fed, it will be like no year he’s known before. A major year of change.
The pic (from the Brisbane tournament’s Twitter feed) is from a press conference going on as I type this (7:45 a.m. Saturday).
Looks like there was no Christmas trim for the Fed; he’ll have to get that taken care of before starting the season in earnest.
Yes, hair issues are IMPORTANT.
