MELBOURNE – It was only four years ago. A lifetime ago, that 15-year-old Genie Bouchard and 16 year-old Luksika Kumkhum of Thailand teamed up for the junior doubles here.
They reached the semis, losing to the Slovakian team of Cepelova and Skamlova (who won it, beating another Canadian, Gabriela Dabrowski, and Timea Babos in the final), 10-7 in the supertiebreak.
Fast forward, and 19-year-old Bouchard is in the fourth round of the singles, with a good shot at the quarter.
Kumkhum, far less heralded, upset Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in the first round.
