MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

Introducing … Team Serbia

It went unnoticed at the press conference because, beyond Ana Ivanovic and perhaps Jelena Jankovic, local media isn’t going to be too familiar with female Serbian tennis players.

But notable as a no-show for the visiting team at this week’s Fed Cup tie is the one top-50 – actually the one top-100 – player they did have, Bojana Jovanovski.

There doesn’t seem to have been much communication about this one. New No. 1 Vesna Dolonc said she’s known for a week; the Serbs and/or the ITF didn’t seem to have let Tennis Canada know, so they scrambled to get another placecard made for replacement Nina Stojanovic, for the press conference table.

It’s not really a surprise; we posted some pics from Australia of Jovanovski, and you can see she has an issue.

The Fed Cup website still lists Jovanovski on the roster.

Here is Team Serbia.

Captain Dejan Vranes had a few beads of sweat on his forehead after answering just a very few questions (Wednesday was the Genie Bouchard show; and without Ivanovic, no one seemed too interested). He told Open Court that he was a little nervous, a little unsure of what might be asked. Perhaps he also thought he might be asked questions in French. πŸ™‚

He did a good job.

His team is pretty young, adorable and … probably out of luck this weekend.

Apparently Serbian Tennis Federation president Slobodan (Bobo) Zivojinovic will be here Thursday.

Because he clearly didn’t get enough watching Team Grand Slam (Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka) take care of his Djoker-less Davis Cup squad in Novi Sad last weekend.

Our terrific weather must have been the attraction.
