MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

Wozniak leads off against Doloncs (video)

Canadian Fed Cup captain Sylvain Bruneau said choosing who would play No. 2 singles behind Genie Bouchard was a very difficult call.

He chose Aleksandra Wozniak, who has the most experience of any of his players and who is at home on top of that.

She was drawn first out of the urn, and thus will meet Serbian No. 1 Vesna Dolonc in the first rubber of the tie, Saturday at 3 p.m.

Following them will be No. 1 Bouchard vs. Serbian No. 2 Jelena Jaksic, who is participating in her first Fed Cup tie.

Reverse singles Sunday will have the two No. 1s, Bouchard and Dolonc, squaring off followed by the two No. 2s, Wozniak and Jaksic.

Unless, of course, either team makes a substitution.

The listed doubles teams for the fifth rubber are Gabriela Dabrowski and Sharon Fichman for Canada, Aleksandra Krunic and Nina Stojanovic for Serbia.

Of the two, the Serbians are the most likely to be substituted for.

As far as I understand Fed Cup rules, if one team clinches with the fourth singles rubber, the doubles is not played. If one team sweeps the first three rubbers, the fourth singles is skipped and the doubles is played.

Here’s some video of the draw ceremony.

Kind of like watching paint dry, really. Lots of bla bla bla. And Bobo Zivojinovic, who didn’t say a word but enhanced with his presence (and our memories of seeing him at Wimbledon back when 6-foot-6 was freakish for a tennis player).

Apologies for the quality. The lighting was absolutely horrible in the room.
