Not the happiest days for Genie Bouchard

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – It seems to have been a tough few days for top Canadian Genie Bouchard, whose coach Nick Saviano has had to do a lot of pep-talking.

All seemed fairly rosy on Tuesday. But the last couple of days, the increasingly famous Bouchard smile has been a whole lot harder to conjure up.

On Thursday, the distress really reached its peak. The poor kid was in tears.

As they’ve been spotted around the grounds at various times the last few days, Saviano has been doing all the talking and Bouchard a lot of the listening. As the old saying goes, “Mama told me there’d be days like these.”

The 20-year-old plays the tough Chinese player Shuai Peng, coming up soon on Stadium 3. We’re looking to see her put all that aside, whatever it is, and just – as he puts it – do her job.
