Kimiko Date-Krumm – still immortal

INDIAN WELLS – The 43-year-old Japanese player, who lost in the final round of qualifying to Yaroslava Shvedova, made the quarterfinals of the doubles with Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.

They lost a tough one to Samantha Stosur and Svetlana Kuznetsova, 10-6 in the superbreaker, after winning the first set 6-1.

Seriously, the woman looks better every year.

Here are a few pics:

There’s a side-by-side pic comparison in this brief piece on the WTA Tour site. Ahhh, the days of tucking and pleating.

Date-Krumm came into Indian Wells ranked No. 92 in singles and No. 54 in doubles.

She has played the event the last five years – which is three more times than she did in her first career, when she played it only twice.

The first time? 23  years ago.

And she’s the only one who can truly rock that awful, horrid, Big-Birdian atrocity adidas has foisted upon its players early in the season.
