MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

“We won’t sell the fur before we kill the bear” – Bruneau

Canadian Fed Cup captain Sylvain Bruneau doesn’t expect a cakewalk against Slovakia next weekend, even with the absences of Dominika Cibulkova and Daniela Hantuchova.

Our Yahoo story is here.

In other Canadian women’s tennis news, Bruneau said the injury that has kept Stéphanie Dubois off the courts since she retired form a match at a small event in California two months ago is an arm injury.

Dubois is currently in London, where fiancé Oliver lives, and has been keeping up with the physical training even though she’s been off the courts. Bruneau, who has been e-mailing back and forth with her, says Dubois expects to return in May if everything goes as planned.

As well, young Françoise Abanda won’t be part of the Fed Cup squad next weekend. She’ll be training in Montreal on the indoor Har-Tru courts at Uniprix Stadium in preparation for an ITF clay-court event down in Florida, and will leave in about a week or so for that.

“The formula in Davis Cup is often that they bring young players to be with the team. But in conditions where we only have one court, sometimes I like to have fewer players, so I can maximize their practice time,” Bruneau said.
