Most expected Genie Bouchard to be playing Serena Williams Friday night at the Rogers Cup, instead of attending the Alouettes’ game (reportedly in the company of a young man who wears a Boston Bruin jersey. But we digress).
Instead, the honour of last Canadian woman standing at the Rogers Cup in Montreal this year goes to … Gabriela Dabrowski.
The 22-year-old from Gloucester, Ont. teamed up with Shahar Pe’er of Israel to reach the second round of the doubles, where they took a very credible 6-2, 7-6 (5) loss at the hands of No. 5 seeds Elena Vesnina and Ekaterina Makarova.
They had their chances in the second-set tiebreak to take it to the match tiebreak, for sure.
Here are some photos from that match.
