MELBOURNE – David Goffin, Fabio Fognini. Canadian Vasek Pospisil certainly is getting his share of talented practice partners.
Here he is with Goffin as he prepared over the last few days.
Goffin is a FAR more solid fellow physically than he was a couple of years ago. He’ll never be beefy, but he no longer looks frail.
Also, as an aside, a thoroughly pleasant and polite champ.
Tennis is a world where people can stand right next to you and not even acknowledge that you exist, unless they really know you well. Common courtesies can often go begging.
But Goffin (and his equally pleasant coach) came over to the side of the court to greet Canadian Davis Cup captain Marty Laurendeau. Your Open Court servant was standing just a few feet away – which would normally make you invisible. But Goffin courteously nodded, smiled and said “Bonjour”.
Just like a real, live, normal person with manners. Amazing what passes for high standards sometimes, depending on context. Goffin clearly has excellent parents. 🙂 🙂
