NEW YORK – If Flavia Pennetta pulls off her first Grand Slam title, with reported fiancé Fabio in the house, will we have an Indian Wells repeat?
In March of 2014, Pennetta pulled off her biggest title until now, and it seemed that was the first blush of her romance with countryman Fabio Fognini.
He stuck around for the rest of the week to cheer her on, after he was eliminated. And apparently brought her good luck.
Here’s what it looked like after she won the title.
But a year and a half later, and with a pretty monster ring spotted on Pennetta’s finger, apparently it’s a sign of true love!
It’s unclear whether Fognini, who had a pretty great US Open moment of his own a week ago coming back from two sets down to defeat Rafael Nadal in a late-night match, made it all the way to Irkutsk for next week’s playoff tie against Russia.
But he arrived a couple of hours before the match – and will have to head to Irkutsk straightaway.
It’s in the top right-corner. It’s basically Mongolia. Vladivostok for Spain, Irkutsk for Italy; clearly the Russians are trying to make sure the opponents don’t show up.
It’s a nasty, expensive flight to get there, too.
His Twitter feed is pretty much all Flavia, with a solid nod to her opponent, Roberta Vinci. Awwwwww.
