After her Oz Open juniors quarter-finals, January, 2011.
Ahhhh, the good old days when you didn’t have to surrender your passport and your firstborn in the hopes of a small chance to actually get an exclusive interview with the Canadian tennis star. (We exaggerate only a tad).
It was Bouchard’s third trip to the Australian Open juniors, even though she was still just 16.
Bouchard crushed Lauren Davis in the third round, 6-0, 6-3 (she was on a mission for that one; that was a good story, too), and defeated Anna Schmiedlova (now, inexplicably, Anna KAROLINA Schmiedlova) 6-2, 6-3 in the quarters.
Despite her own warnings to herself in that interview, she ended up losing to doubles partner Puig, 6-4, 6-4. (Open Court’s interview with Puig after that one is another good story- kids can be so funny!)
The doubles match she mentioned was against Klara Fabikova and Denisa Allertova; they lost 6-0, 6-3, and she was bang-on in her assessment. Fabikova is currently playing college tennis with the University of California Bears; Allertova defeated Simona Halep Thursday.
A throwback to a kindler, gentler Genie era. 🙂
