In their pool-deciding ties Thursday in Madrid, both Canadian teams prevailed.
Charlotte Robillard-Millette and Bianca Andreescu barely lost games in their destruction of Japan in the junior Fed Cup round-robin.
Both nations were 2-0 going in; this one would decide which country made the semifinals.
It was a piece of cake.
The Canadian boys, as expected, had more of a tussle with the Czech Republic; top Czech David Rikl is a pretty tough player.
But after Denis Shapovalov put them on the board, Félix Auger-Aliassime advanced when Rikl retired late in the third set with a leg injury.
They’re still playing the doubles in this one (Shapovalov and Sigouin). But it’s done and dusted.
The two top Quebecers did a cute video, thanking the fans for their support.

The Canadian boys will play Russia in their semi-final; the Canadian girls will face the Czech Republic, which has Marketa Vondrousova, a 16-year-old who reached the French Open junior semis in doubles this year, and won the doubles.
