MELBOURNE – The funniest part of these early-morning stadium warmups is that opponents, if they don’t have to share the same court (and even if they do), tend to pretend the other doesn’t exist.
We’re talking about the women here; the boys tend to observe the niceties a little more.
So Genie Bouchard was first up at 9 a.m. on Rod Laver Arena (roof closed), preparing for her third-round match against American Coco Vandeweghe.
As Bouchard packed up, Vandeweghe arrived to warm up. Doubles partner Martina Hingis was her warmup buddy – nice of her to get up so early, especially since they don’t even have a doubles match scheduled later.
It all gets under way at 11 a.m. Oz time.
