MELBOURNE – Sponsors’ visibility trumps Federer love Sunday in Melbourne.
What happened? Look above, from Sunday, and below, from the day before.
There must have been a complaint from the sponsors that their advertising was being covered up (or whomever is in charge of these things with the tournament noticed and put the kibosh on them). What changed Sunday, after all these years of Federer love-banners in those exactly same spaces, is unknown.
That didn’t stop an even bigger crowd than the day before from jamming itself into every nook and cranny.
There is no tennis player as popular as Roger Federer. This is the crowd to see him practice. Practice! #AusOpen pic.twitter.com/5P4T5YNsiY
