KEY BISCAYNE – It’s a well-known fact that Daniel Nestor does not like the humid weather.
On Wednesday, in his quarter-final victory with Brian Baker over Philipp Petzschner and Alexander Peya in Miami, it was his very best friend.
The ice trick worked Wednesday. Unfortunately, even giving the ice bag some love didn’t help Nestor and Baker get over the hump and reach the final. They were defeated by the No. 6 seeds, Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo, 6-4, 6-3on Thursday afternoon.
It was still a good effort with a first-time partner. Nestor will mostly play with Frenchman Fabrice Martin (with whom he reached the final in Montpellier earlier this year, losing a tight one to the Zverev brothers) going forward. His ranking will rise two spots, to No. 22, with the effort here.
