Stephens faced toughest fields in ’17

The folks behind it are always looking at new stats to add. And one they’re looking at right now is the average rankings of all of a players’s opponents.

No surprise, US Open champ Sloane Stephens led by a wide margin. The quality of opponent she faced during the US hard-court season was off the charts, and she checks in at an average of 28.

Well behind are Karolina Pliskova (44) and Garbiñe Muguruza (45).

Simona Halep, Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki aren’t among the top 18.
