RIP Ken Flach, 1963-2018

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – The tennis world was saddened early Tuesday to learn of the sudden, unexpected death of former Davis Cup standout and former world No. 1 doubles player Ken Flach.

Flach was 54.

According to the ITF, Flach contracted bronchitis, which quickly escalated into pneumonia and septic shock within four days.

Per the ATP Tour, he was put on life support in a San Francisco hospital and died Monday night.

Flach and countryman Robert Seguso won 28 doubles titles together. That included three Grand Slams: the 1985 US Open and the 1987 and 1988 Wimbledons.

They also won the gold medal at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea.

As a singles player, Flach reached No. 56 and reached the fourth round of the US Open in 1987.
