Fish in Sock’s corner in Houston

Jack Sock’s coach is Jay Berger, the former No. 7 and longtime USTA head of men’s tennis.

But with a new job at a club in West Palm Beach, Fla., Berger isn’t traveling as much in 2018. And so, in Sock’s corner at the Houston tournament this week is Mardy Fish – as it happens, another former world No. 7.

Could Fish help turn around a tough season? Sock was only 3-6 coming into Houston. And he had yet to win back-to-back matches in 2018 going into a tough quarterfinal with Taylor Fritz Friday.

That remains true; Fritz won in three.
