Sania Mirza expecting her first child

Former No. 1 doubles player Sania Mirza has not been seen on Tour since Beijing last September.

A chronic knee injury (patella tendonitis, or “jumper’s knee”) has sidelined her. In February, she said she’d need two more months.

But now, a happy life event has scuttled that timeline. Mirza Tweeted that she and husband Shoaib Malik are expecting.

Her father confirmed it to the Indian wire service PTI. She’s due in October.

Mirza is 31. Her husband, a former captain of the Pakistani cricket team, is 36. They’ve been married eight years.
