Albuquerque event dead after 20 years

The ITF event in Albuquerque, New Mexico was a staple of the fall USTA women’s circuit.

But after 20 years of support from sponsor Coleman Vision, it won’t be held in 2018.

That leaves a hole in the fall schedule for players wanting to compete in North America. A $25,000 event in Redding, Calif. the week of Sept. 10 also was cancelled. Another $25K, in Stillwater, Oklahoma next week also is off the schedule.

It’s a shame they couldn’t rejig the schedule. Because during the weeks of Oct. 22 (Macon, Saguenay) and Oct. 29 (Tyler, Toronto), there are two larger tournaments competing for players.
