Garcia selected; will she play?

New Davis Cup captain Julien Benneteau has selected French No. 1 Caroline Garcia for the Feb. 9-10 World Group tie against Belgium.

What he hasn’t confirmed is that she will actually play. Garcia hasn’t competed since the 2016 final.

“I don’t want to tell you what she said,” Benneteau told the French media about the call. “She’s aware that she was selected.”

The FFT’s charter actually calls for sanctions if a player refuses to play for country. But technical director Pierre Cherret told l’Équipe “that’s not their mindset.”
