When Alexander Zverev was coming up, his home-country Stuttgart tournament offered him wild cards – twice.
So much for appreciation. According to tournament director Edwin Weindorfer, Zverev hasn’t been back because his financial demands were too rich. Zverev has played Halle the last three years.
Stuttgart is trying to get Roger Federer again. According to Stuttgarter Zeitung, more than 25 per cent of the tournament’s $8 million budget goes to appearance fees – which pretty much is Federer’s price, and leaves no room for Zverev.
So he’s plan B. But they would look to offer Zverev a three-year deal.
