New gig: I’ll be writing for SBD.com, a sports betting portal based in Canada for which I’m keen to upgrade the tennis coverage.
(It’s a portal; there’s no actual betting done on the site).
The first two pieces are up now.
The first is a preview of the Western & Southern Open – ATP side.

No shock that Novak Djokovic is the odds-on favorite.
The WTA side of the event has Serena Williams installed as the favorite. She wasn’t, before the draw was made. But she is now. But we’re giving Venus a shot.

Bonjour Steph,
Steph,
These Courts are playing pretty quick (Outside + Grandstand & Court 17).
I wonder why you haven’t given Naomi Osaka a shot with her Booming Serve?
Yes, I’ve heard they were quite quick everywhere – new surface type this year, but of course they can tweak it as they like. It’s also hot and humid so the ball will fly as long as that’s the case.
Osaka always has a shot. But she apparently has been “working on her serve” and that can always lead to inconsistent stuff when you put it under competitive pressure.
Plus, she was really struggling before the break – and she didn’t play a single competitive match during the break.
Total free for all in these circumstances.
Hi Steph, Wanted to read your articles, but when I go to sbd.com, it takes me to a website for helping governments to run more efficiently. Tried doing a search for sbd canada betting, but no luck finding a website.
If you click on the photos it will take you there.
Tks. The pics took me to a website with the address, sportsbettingdime.com/news/tennis/
in case any of your other readers are interested. Enjoyed your articles, as usual. I am really looking forward to seeing what happens after such a long layoff, & agree that Kenin will emerge as the winner on the women’s side.
It’s such a free for all that the winners the next few weeks could be the most random – I’m not sure anyone can even guess. Which is kind of exciting – I guess! Tune in!
