After two wins in qualifying and four in the main draw, Canadian Genie Bouchard fell achingly short of pulling off the second title of her career.
She was edged out by Patricia Maria Tig, whose comeback from the absolute bottom (playing 15Ks in Cancun) to a title and a career-high ranking well beyond what she did before becoming a mother.
Bouchard had needed a wild card just to even play the qualifying at this International-level event.
On Tuesday, Bouchard was gifted a wild card into the main draw of the French Open.
