Norway’s Cristian Ruud has taken down No. 7 seed Diego Schwartzman and No. 12 Pablo Carreño Busta on his way to the Monte-Carlo quarterfinals.
On Friday he will face No. 15 seed Fabio Fognini who, after the event wasn’t held in 2020, is the de facto defending champion.
Ruud, who is 2-0 in his career against Fognini, actually is the slight favorite to win this one.
But 2020 was a great year for him, and a terrible season for Fognini, who had arthroscopic surgery on both ankles during the pandemic shutdown.
