The singles semifinals in Chicago Saturday didn’t exactly offer much bang for buck for the nice crowd that showed up.

Marketa Vondrousova gave No. 2 seed Garbiñe Muguruza a walkover because of gastrointestinal issues.

And Elena Rybakina retired against No. 6 seed Ons Jabeur when she was down a set and a break.

Hopefully the final will make up for all that.
