Anett Kontaveit currently sits at No. 10 in the race to Guadalajara – well, No. 9, really, as few expect Naomi Osaka to make an appearance.
Which means she’s one spot out, and that she and Ons Jabeur are going to battle it out over the next week for those last two spots.
Badosa, who is slightly ahead of Jabeur and 400 points ahead of Kontaveit going into this Moscow final, is sitting out next week.
Jabeur WAS playing in Courmayeur. But she pulled out after the draw. Kontaveit is to be the No. 2 seed in Cluj-Napoca.
But without the extra 165 points the Estonian would earn for taking the Moscow title Sunday, she couldn’t hope to catch up. Down a set and TWO breaks in the second against Ekaterina Alexandrova, she pulled off the title.
