INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Ekaterina Alexandrova is no fun as an opening match for anyone.
And she certainly has her fair share of wins in that situation.
So it was a good effort by Simona Halep – the No. 24 seed (crazy to type that) to get through in three sets before an excellent crowd Friday at the BNP Paribas Open.
She had her tetchy moments (not unusual). But in the end, after dropping the second set, she got her groove in a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory.
Here’s a look.
It doesn’t get any easier – to say the least – for Halep in the third round.
She will face Coco Gauff. Who will be playing on her 18th birthday.
