For once, there’s no complaining about the amount of playing opportunities for the women as there is Rome – plus two WTA 125s, one in Paris and the other in Germany.
Rebecca Marino chose Karlsruhe, Germany for her second tournament of the clay-court season.
Meanwhile, in Rome, Andreescu and Raducanu prepared to slug it out. But in the end, it was a self-TKO as Raducanu retired.

Do you have any inside information about what happened to the Russian boycott that the Italian Open was rumoured to be thinking about? There was a lot of buzz about it and nothing happened. Do you think with all the Russians forced to play the non British grass court tournaments there might be some fallout from Germany/Spain/Holland?
You’re asking me to explain why something a tournament was “rumoured to be thinking about” and that there was “buzz” about ended up being … just a rumour there was “buzz” about somewhere?
Keep in perspective that any “moves” of this nature are primarily based on the policies of that particular country’s government.
Wimbledon is very much acting alone, at this point. Most events have less “concern about tarnishing the image of the Championships and the royal family” or … whatever.
