The Canadian Content at the Citi Open, often very good, got scarcer this week with the withdrawal of Leylah Fernandez, who is on the mend from her Roland Garros injury but still not ready to compete.

And Genie Bouchard, who had been given a wild card, just sort of … disappeared.

But there is Rebecca Marino, who has a wild card straight into the Toronto tournament and so can play this one, where she is the No. 2 seed.

Her opponent, Valentini Grammatikopoulou, was the No. 1 seed at the $25K ITF last week in Saskatoon. And she was beaten by Marino’s countrywoman – well, 15-year-old – Victoria Mboko.

Who ended up winning the tournament.

Marino needed three sets, but got it done.
