MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

ATP Tour – Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022 final results

Denis Shapovalov was looking for only the second ATP Tour title of his career, his first in nearly three years.

He’s made three finals since then, two of them in 2021.

But this was a terrific opportunity to get that second one, even if his opponent was the unseeded but extremely pesky Yoshihito Nishioka.

Or, as Shapovalov described him after his defeat, “super annoying”.

In Tel Aviv, the top two seeds made the final, including top seed Novak Djokovic, who came through relatively routinely.

In Sofia, after Jannik Sinner took a tumble late in his match against Holger Rune and was forced to retire, Rune took on the unseeded Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland, who won in a surprise upset.
