SAN DIEGO – If there is one place on the tennis planet that probably can risk not having full court-drying equipment during a tournament, it’s probably San Diego.
And yet, Mother Nature wins again, as the might session on Tuesday night was delayed about an hour and a half after a late-afternoon downpour.
Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and her partner Giuliana Olmos were six games into their first-round doubles match.
They had those squeegee rollers – the kind you’ll find at any hard-court tennis club. And they did have the piles of towels.
But it’s no exaggeration to say that the staff and ballkids didn’t exactly go to “wet court drying bootcamp” ahead of this tournament.
So some of them did their own thing – creating crop circle art on one half of Court 2 while the others just went back and forth old-school.
