ADELAIDE, Australia – Bianca Andreescu came back from the (virtual) dead during her 2023 opener in Adelaide Sunday.
She was down 0-6, 2-5 to former Grand Slam champion Garbiñe Muguruza and, somehow, forged an incredible comeback to win in three.
And now, she has to wait THREE days to get back to it in her second round at the Adelaide International.
The field is crazy; Andreescu barely got in with her protected ranking of No. 22.
Second match isn’t any easier – in fact, tougher as she takes on No. 4 seed Veronika Kudermetova.
Kudermetova rolled over Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 6-0 in her first-round match, in another head-scratching performance from the young American.
Here’s what Andreescu looked like on the practice court Tuesday, with new coach Christophe Lambert.
And here are some pics.
Kudermetova, who played Monday, was warming up with doubles partner Liudmila Samsonova on the very next court for their doubles match. They’re a new team for 2023.
(Yes – women doing VOLLEY-VOLLEY DRILLS! That actually happened).
