For Miami finalists Townsend and Fernandez, the adventure will continue

MIAMI, Fla. – Taylor Townsend and Leylah Fernandez served for the first set in their Miami Open women’s doubles final.

They didn’t close it out. And after that, the far more experienced team of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula rolled to victory.

But for the Can-Am team of Townsend and Fernandez, their second tournament together brought great rewards. And they told Open Court after the match that it was just the beginning.

Here’s the interview; Fernandez gamely tries to chime in. 😛

Townsend had to pass on playing the Charleston qualifying, because of the Sunday date in Miami. But she’ll still be there for the doubles with Fernandez, who will only play on Tuesday against Evgeniya Rodina of Russia in singles.

They’ve also already entered Madrid together.

The good news for this appealing pair is that they are going to stick together this year and aim for qualification at the WTA final.

Here’s what it looked like from courtside.
