There was a lot to like about this round-of-16 lineup in Madrid Monday.
Especially the continuing run of 16-year-old (as of a couple of days ago) Mirra Andreeva, who faced No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka.
And Sakkari vs Badosa. But in the end the best one was the last one, as Iga Swiatek eliminated a game Alexandrova in three sets, past 1 a.m.
Leylah Fernandez and Taylor Townsend played their second-round match in doubles, after upsetting the No. 2 seeds in their opener. And they’re in the quarterfinals.
