ROLAND GARROS – With all the respect to the other matches on the sked, the moment it was confirmed that Carlos Alcaraz would play Denis Shapovalov in the third round on Friday, it was destined to to be the night session match.
And so it was; it didn’t live up to the advance billing only because Alcaraz was just too good.
Also on tap Friday: Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev and … Novak Djokovic.
It’s a tough quarter. Rublev didn’t make it out.

I would prefer to see an Alcaraz-Shapo match on a different surface. A hard court, or grass surface would be more even than a clay surface which is Denis’ worst surface, & is one of Alcaraz’s best. Hope I’m wrong, & it turns out to be a close match.
Well, it stands to reason that they will play sometime on either grass or hard courts, and the advantage will even out.
For sure it will, but there was such hype about this match that I thought was unfounded considering their different records on clay. As it turns out, records didn’t lie in this case. Looking forward to them meeting again on a different surface (hopefully at Wimbledon!)
