That’s notable because Zverev, who was credibly accused of domestiv violence by a former girlfriend a couple of years ago in a case that wasn’t ever prosecuted (indeed, even the ATP, after a delayed and lengthy investigation, resolved not to sanction him and the alleged abuse took place in a number of countries other than Germany), is in a situation where he may be once again accused – this time by the mother of his two-year-old daughter – in Germany.

Nothing has happened yet in that case – if it even does. So of course Zverev is perfectly entitled to earn his living. Still, that’s quite a cloud hanging over him and you wonder if the fans who will be on hand are even aware of it.

In Atlanta, a couple of “Draw God Specials” as No. 5 seed Chris Eubanks meets the (fellow) Georgia Tech kid ranked outside the top 700 who got a wild card into the tournament while the Atlanta native was denied (Eubanks, as you can see, ended up getting straight in after withdrawals).

And 18-year-old Alex Michelsen gets a rematch against Franco-American Maxime Cressy, who was the defending champion on the grass in Newport last week when Michelsen upset him in the first round, on the way to a run to the final.
