The ATP Tour is back on this week, after the Davis Cup week last week.
But the Canadians aren’t part of the action yet, with Félix Auger-Aliassime playing Laver Cup in Vancouver.
On the women’s side, a big Canadian contingent in Guadalajara included qualifier Carol Zhao, wild card Genie Bouchard – and, with the cutoff dropping like a stone in the last few weeks, the WTA-level debut of Stacey Fung. And Leylah Fernandez.
For the second straight week, Bianca Andreescu was MIA.
Katherine Sebov, who certainly could have played Guadalajara, opted for a $60K ITF in California.
And some of the Canadian Davis Cuppers were scheduled to turn it around quickly and play the Challenger in Colombus – Alexis Galarneau, Vasek Pospisil and Kelsey Stevenson.)
Galarneau had the biggest run – he made the final, but finally hit the wall and lost to No. 2 seed Denis Kudla.

So, it IS something in his physical make-up that doesn’t allow for a solution. He has always been my favourite Canadian player, & I have seen how it has affected his career. It’s such a shame that we have two players (Pospisil & Andreescu) with tremendous talent, but were born with bodies that have hindered their ability to play to their full potential for extended periods of time.
Don’t know if that’s the conclusion. I’m just saying there likely isn’t any advice you can offer him that he hasn’t already considered. At one point years ago he told me they *thought* they’d found a solution. But obviously that didn’t prove to be true. So if there is a solution, he has yet to find it.
I also wouldn’t compare those two, in any way. But if you’re going to make that generalization you should probably include Raonic in there as well.
I saw Pospisil’s match against Peniston where he could barely stand up because of cramping in the third set. He has had the same problem throughout his career, it seems. Most recent before this was at Davis Cup, & he was given a solution of salt & something I can’t remember, which allowed him to continue playing. Couldn’t he take some of this onto the court with him to take as soon as he feels the cramps coming on, or start drinking it earlier in the day, or the day before?
Didn’t Pat Rafter have a similar problem, & somehow got it under control? I would just think that, after all these years on tour, he & his team should have found a solution by now. Maybe he has something in his physical makeup that doesn’t allow for a solution??? Do you have any insight that maybe we fans do not have? Tks.
I think you do him a disservice to somehow assume or posit that he night not have done absolutely everything during his career to find a solution to his excessive sweating (Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil was the other one who had this problem and never could find the answer).
Because obviously he has tried anything and everything. It’s had a huge effect on his career.
