After a busy week and a title in Hong Kong, Leylah Fernandez nevertheless continued on to Nanchang, where she’ll try to build upon that success. With four seeds falling Tuesday, her path was cleared somewhat.

She got a pretty good opening round, against wild card Guo Hanyu (who reached the doubles semifinal in Hong Kong but isn’t highly ranked in singles). After a big of trouble closing it out, it was a pretty routine victory.

In Cluj-Napoca, a big Romanian presence including top seed Sorana Cirstea, who doesn’t often have an opportunity to play at home. And didn’t last long.

In Monastir, six seeds were in action in singles.
