Leylah Fernandez, who had planned to play Adelaide (she was definitely on the borderline of making the main draw), decided against it in favour of practice.
And Félix Auger-Aliassime, who finally got on court at United Cup in the mixed doubles, pronounced himself good enough to go to try his luck in Auckland.
In addition to that, the Challenger and Futures circuits ramp up for 2024, and so there are exponentially more players in action for this second week of the season.
