MELBOURNE, Australia – After a week of pullouts and surprises – par for the course, some years, in the week before a major – it was unseeded Jack Draper vs No. 7 seed Jiri Lehecka in Adelaide.

And in Auckland, Cana-Chilean Alejandro Tabilo (who qualified) met unseeded Taro Daniel for the Auckland title.

Daniel had one career title, on clay in Istanbul in 2018. Tabilo was looking for his first; he has one ATP final, outdoors on clay in Cordoba in 2022. And he got it.

Draper also was looking for his first career title; he made his first final in Sofia, indoors on hard court, last fall. Lehecka has one final, on outdoor hard court in Winston-Salem last summer.

As it happened, that ALSO was the week right before a major. And he did it again.

(Auckland is 18 hours ahead of EST; Adelaide is 15 1/2 hours ahead).
