A week to go before Indian Wells, and the two WTA tournaments have moved States-side.

Qualifying wrapped up in both Austin (where Rebecca Marino looked for – and got – a main-draw spot) and San Diego (where BJK Cup star Marina Stakusic starts her season – a little late – with a win over Mario Timofeeva, who retired in the second set of their first-round match on Saturday. She followed it up with another win over former No. 1 junior Elsa Jacquemot and is into the main draw of a WTA event for the first time in her young career.

Marino won the “qualifier placement” draw as the four other options were top-five seeds. She got fellow qualifier Sachia Vickery.
