MIAMI – Jannik Sinner is the favorite.
Grigor Dimitrov, at 32 and back in the top 10 after more than five years, is probably the sentimental favorite.
Could Dimitrov do what, in essense, Danielle Collins did in the women’s final? He had a lot of support. It wasn’t nearly enough.
On the doubles side, the Cana-Kiwis looked for their first WTA 1000 title as a team, their first title since Zhengzhou last October.
Their opponents, alternates Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sofia Kenin, had had a great run but there were question marks with Mattek-Sands’s ankle/Achilles, which turned her almost to stone in Friday night’s semifinal even if they still managed to eke out the win.
She actually looked okay, and got better and better and on a day “Dabliffe” played far from their best, the Americans took it.
