After a thorough dismantling of Sara Sorribes Tormo in the first round, No. 6 Leylah Fernandez got qualifier Viktorija Golubic on Wednesday, with the winner earning a quarterfinal spot.

It was far too close for far too long. But in the end Fernandez got it done in a very spirited contest.

Aryna Sabalenka WAS enters the fray in Berlin. But the weather postponed that, as it did for Marketa Vondrousova even as Ons Jabeur barely got her suspended match finished.
