Cana-Chilean Alejandro Tabilo finally makes his grass-court singles debut, less than a week before Wimbledon in an unpredictable match against the Kazakh Shevchenko.

Shevchenko, who switched nationalities just recently and is newly married to Russian WTA player Anastasia Potapova, can be as great on the day as he can be inconsistent. On this day, Tabilo was through easily.

And Ben Shelton, the No. 1 seed, also got things started with a win.

In Eastbourne, Taylor Fritz and Alexander Bublik – and a posse of British wild cards and lucky losers – took the stage. Bublik is quickly out.
